Today I wrote Nothing, Installationview Kunst aus NRW, 2009 The photographic series "Today I wrote nothing" refers to the diary entry of the russian avantgarde-author and poet Daniil Kharms. Kharms has been blacklisted as an "Anti-sowjetic litterateur" and was later, as a consequence sent to prison. In 1937, as he was hiding from prosecution, he wrote into his Blue Notebook: Today I wrote nothing. Doesn t matter. January 9th. Kharms became after his death famous for his absurd writing style. People said that rarely somebody has understood him. His poems and children books can be read in many different ways, allowing various meanings. This is the reason why his writings had been characterized as "anti-sowjetic". "Today I wrote Nothing" is a series that exists in 22 tableaux. On each is printed a bookpage with the diary-entry. On each page some of the words of the entry are missing, so that the written statement changes. |
